2. How far back do you want to go? 1054 and the 'Great Schism' when the Roman Catholic Church left communion with the four eastern Patriarchs; or 1517 (16th century, really) Reformation of Martin Luther; or Henry VIII break with Rome
3. The largest factor was that the west held on too tightly to the nationalists and allowed Mao to strengthen his position by eliminating all of his enemies. Mao's close ties to the USSR during the Cold War didn't hurt.

1. the camp david accords really didn't do much [since they were lead by jimmy carter], but their purpose was to unite the Israelis and the Palestinians

2. there are a ton; the great schism, the reformation, the inquisition the holocaust etc.

3.basically Mao was a great leader
