What is compassion? Good question. I think true compassion is a virtue. A compassionate person is someone who will share the suffering of others by doing his/her best to feel their pain, to take into account the suffering of others as if it were one’s own. Different from empathy, the compassionate person will then try to alleviate the pain of others through actions such as showing special kindness to those who suffer. Thus compassion is essentially empathy, though with a more active slant in that the compassionate person will seek to actually aid those they feel compassionate for.

Compassion has a sacred notion that other humanitarian acts such as altruism do not have per se. What I mean is that in compassion there is a deep desire in that person to “alleviate” or share the other’s pain in order to relieve him/her. Some may think that compassion and altruism are the same as they both have the same ends. To me, compassion has an extra element, a noble and divine one.

A big hug to someone who just messed up.
Giving your seat on the bus to someone who needs it.
Looking at a homeless person and knowing that it could be you or someone you know.
Understanding that the universe works in mysterious ways and that compassion for all that's in it can only make it a better place.

The kind of love that God has towards us.....Covenant love...

In Hebrew, it's HESED....In Greek it's AGAPE.....

THE kind of love that gives without expecting anything back from the person you're helping....

Just forgiving someone who has hurt you when you have every
right to be angry and push them away, just as God sent His Son to die for EACH and EVERY one of us on the cross to pay for our sins, so we, by personal and individual CHOICE, could receive the mercy and forgiveness and eternal life in Heaven that God promises in His Word....=)

Compassion means empathy for another person rather than condemnation for something you may not totally understand.
