Led Zeppelin is.
Go check out any high school, the kids with long hair still digging Zep, wearing Zep t-shirts.
Haven't had anything like it since, and they have stood the test of time.
Tell your friend to check back in 30 years, and see if Fall Out Boy is still cool.

I agree with you -- the White Stripes are like Led Zeppelin jammed into 2 people. Just watch Under Blackpool Lights. Jack has the blues and rock fused together with a vengeance -- he plays guitar with a Jimmy Page groove, he's got the John Paul Jones keyboard thing going and Meg -- that girl has got the bottom end laid out seriously Bonham heavy. Yes, the White Stripes are the Led Zep of today easily !

My friends and I have had this conversation about bands today and how they just don't compare to the great classic rock bands of our day. I don't think there is a Led Zeppelin to be found in today's music. There are some great bands out there today but I haven't found a current one that has the staying power of a band like Zeppelin. I would say that they were one of a kind!

There can be no replacement for Led Zeppelin. And saying Fall Out Boy is the next Zeppelin is an insult to "Led-heads" everywhere.

No one can live up to Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath's standards. They set the bar high enough that all of these bands now are inspired directly or indirectly by them.
There is too much sissy music out there (like EMO) for anyone to even be put in those shoes.
However, I would say that one of the few bands that is far better than the rest because of their uniqueness and their style of music - it would be the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

that is a hard one to answer.over the years everybody probably wanted to know who will be the next led zeppelin
after their unfortunate tragic breakup in 1980.Metallica with
their 1991 self titled release "Metallica"people would say they
are the led zeppelin of the 90's because the self titled metallica album had so many good songs on it.now in the present i would say that the White stripes are a raw true to form rock band actually the White stripes are one my favorite bands right now.they do have some led zeppelin to their sound.

Sorry, neither! No one will ever measure up to "the band"! Led Zeppelin is history and untouchable. For a band to be compared to their level, would be staying that Led Zep measures down to one of your bands level, and that ain't happening my friend! True Led Heads know that this band and their sound are the true pioneers of blues and hard rock! Why not choose another band to play your wishful thinking!

there never will be another Zep. period.
the world changes, music changes, and the music industry is a world apart different now. there's so many different ways people access music now, that people can easily overlook thousands of quality bands, just look at all the bands on MySpace that we won't give a second thought to check out!
there will never be another Elvis Presley
there will never be another Beatles
and there will never be another Led Zepplin, among many bands.
the music industry rarely supports acts of originality, they want something that sells, that sounds similar to something that was just hot.
but ultimately, I just don't think that music has the same intimacy it once had. it's just not the same anymore.
a couple bands with a couple hits, and you're claiming they're the next Zep? you got to be kidding.

I know they're very different than Led Zeppelin, but I would call Radiohead the best and most innovative band around today.

Honestly I dont think any current "bands" will make an impact on music as Zeppelin did. The current bands are all one hit wonders. If I had to say it was one band it would be Green Day.
