If you have a license there's no problem is there? There's no excuse for not having one, easy payment schemes are available . . . and if you begrudge paying "cos there's naff all on the telly anyway" then get rid of the TV.

The TV licencing people keep sending me letters, for some reason. They even came to visit me a few weeks ago, but I was out. Now they've sent me an even more threatening letter. I could mail them back, saying that: yes, I've got a TV, but I've de-tuned all the channels, have no incoming cable or antenna connection, and use it only for playing console games and watching pre-recorded DVDs and VHS tapes (that latter viewing habit is becoming more and more infrequent); therefore I'm legally entitled to own a TV without a licence.
But - you know - I just, well, can't be bothered. Instead I choose to let them waste their time and assume what they want to assume; they have to prove that I'm illegally watching TV - I don't have to prove that I'm not.
The BBC is a dinosaur. It's a gay dinosaur - it's a hardonosorearse.

Well don't open the door and just shout at them to F U C K off. If no one goes for this con it will die on it's feet. The only reason anything like this goes on is due to a proportion of dickheads who subscribe to it. You've got no bottle and too many ' yes' people in UK. I've had my trailer clamped a good few times and my van but I angle grind them off and dump the remains on council doorsteps. DON"T buy a damn licence. Stash your telly for a few weeks. Or better still do without it, and go ride a bike, horse, keep a good dog, read, paint, write, play a musical instrument, travel or do some voluntary community work !

You need a TV Licence to use any television receiving equipment such as a TV set,
set-top boxes, video or DVD recorders, computers or mobile phones to watch or record TV programmes as they are being shown on TV.
If you use a set-top box with a hi-fi system or another device that can only be used to produce sounds and can't display TV programmes, and you don't install or use any other TV receiving equipment, you don't need a TV Licence.
So buy one quick.
A colour TV Licence costs £135.50 and a black and white licence costs £45.50.
Don't hit the person for they are only doing a job and could and would have you charged with assault, and not only would you be fined £1000 for having no TV Licence you will also be sentenced for the assault as well, so is it worth it ?
there are easy payment schemes topay for a Licence
The Cash Easy Entry scheme is ideal if you want to spread the cost of your colour TV Licence to make it more affordable. It means you can pay for your licence for as little as £5.50 a week.
You can no longer make payments on the Cash Easy Entry scheme at the Post Office®. To ensure you remain correctly licensed, you should make your payments at a PayPoint outlet instead.
There are more than 16,000 PayPoint outlets across the UK, including newsagents, convenience stores, supermarkets and petrol stations.
How do I join the scheme?
Simply call us on 0845 601 5526 Monday to Friday between 8am and 9pm or Saturday between 8am and 5pm.
Good luck and I hope this information helps you.

Know how you feel - I was outraged when I received their first letter and even more put out when I received the second. Found out later that my neighbourhood has the highest rate of non-compliance in the country!! Still, how hard is it to believe someone doesn't have a telly? I don't have one, and won't have one until I move into my house I have just bought. No point - would just have to carry it with me when I move.
But just remember they are doing their job and a rotten job it must be. They have no right to be officious though, nor to sort through your private stuff. If you are really worried, then make sure you have a friend there with you, someone with a cool head.

I think the question should be why the hell do we have to pay for TV Licence when most of us pay for Sky and actually watch that ! Not like the rubbish that is on BBC1 . Maybe if no-one paid for it , they would put some good programs on Good luck for tomorrow though

Do they usually make appointments?I thought they knocked and caught you unawares. However if they know you have been using a tele and you don't have a licence you don't have much of a defence.Don't get physical. Your the one in the wrong not the inspector.Give him a punch and you are in jail. As it is you would probably get away with a stiff fine.Don't make it worse.

There is nothing you can do to restrain them. Unfortunately, they have a right to come to your home. You should have bought your licence, even if you disagree with it. Now you will be taken to court and fined a hefty sum.

Be out at the time, keep tv out of site of door, they cannot force entry, and if all else fails, say you just moved in and former tenant said his license at that address was good for a couple of months

You have not given us the vital information. Have you got a television? If not just tell them that and shut the door. IF you have a TV and you are watching it without a license then you deserve everything you get
