I got a slice of prime rib at a buffet this weekend. It was so rare and dripping blood that even I flinched when I got back to the table with it and took a careful look.

Wrong answer from your friends. Why do people care who eats what? Sheesh.
What you may not realize is the amount of meat eaters who actually have issues about vegetarians and what they eat. As a veg myself, when I order food out when I am in a mixed group, one rude person always has to shout across the table and ask if I am veg, and then proceed to ask why I chose this.
I think it's funny that people on both sides of the plate can be discourteous to each other.

Most of my vegetarian friends don't mind if others eat meat.
If you feel guilty, you should either not invite them to go out to dinner or you should order a vegetarian entree as well.

Yes , especially when I have ordered Steak when He and his family dine with My wife and I.
I always order my steak Rib-eye, Blackened, very rare.
He always grimaces as I cut my steak and blood runs from it.
I have had to change seats so his view is blocked partially.
People have to realize, some vegetarians are so because they do not believe in the slaughter of animals to be eaten.
It nauseates them. So I try to be polite and choose my menu accordingly if I think fast enough.

I can't say I have, but I'd say that if you accept her diet, she should accept yours. I am a vegetarian, but I don't preach to others how they should eat. Nothing against your friend, but she should either establish how it makes her feel ahead of time or just not go out to eat where the food is going to bother her.

just tell them that vegetables are living creatures as well, and that they are eating them while they are still alive. imagine, you're living in the world without a care in the world, and then someone just rips you out of your home and chop you up into little pieces?? how horrible!!! if they want to use that sort of pity-filled speech about animals, turn the tables and use it for the vagetable population too. eat your steak with pride.
