U can either get a seperate internet connection for ur laptop, but its easier to upgrade ur current broadband to wirless- this means u can connect through the same line as your main computer. Most modern laptops come with a wireless card inserted, this is what u use to connect to ur home network. What u need to buy depends on what you want to do - for example you might wanna get Office 2007 - which is really easy to use. In order to get a decent one, you'll be looking to spend at least £500 - the best ones come from Toshiba, tho these are expensive. My laptop is a Dell one, which though arnt really recomendable due to all the crappy deals and inflation, this one is pretty good, and came with vista etc.
Good luck xxx

waste as much money now as you can and get a good one that way you wont have to upgrade for a while.
Wireless is standard on most laptops these days. To make it work you need a wireless box which you plug into your ntl box, there are a few complex settings revolving around security so best find a friend who is a bit nerdy to do this for you

If you have a wireless router I would suggest getting a laptop with wireless capabilities. But if you don't have a wireless access point already on your network you will need to buy one so that the computer will connect wirelessly.

You really need to talk this over with the salesperson. Your needs vary on how you will be using it. There are too many variables to answer here.

They work exactly like a desktop. Yes, you will have to have access to the internet, but, most of them are wireless ready now so all you need is a wireless router at home, or a card with Verizon or another broadband cell company. You can also use it in coffee shops and bookstores that have wi-fi available.

Any new laptop will work with NTL, you can use just a network cable and thats all you need

To use wireless, you need a broadband wireless router (NOT a ADSL modem router), and this will plug into the NTL modem, and you are on.

We Use IBM thinkpads, T series for many years,
Been great, quite reliable,
It all depends what you want to do with it.
If its office things you dont need a very fast one. the slowest new one is probably fast enough. Just make sure it has over 512mb of RAM otherwise you might find it slowing down.(and if you buy one for office work its cheaper to buy one with Microsoft Office installed allready.)
For games is a different matter, id buy a PC for that.

hope this helps

take a go searching the workstation shops. attempt the keyboards out, see that you sense smooth with. maximum laptops do each and every of the above. Ask in case you may have residing house windows XP put in! also evaluate paying for a pc cooling base. it truly is small field with a fan which sits lower than your pc and cools it.some are mains powered, some will be powered from a usb port. overlook about grants of "loose workstation" there is not any such difficulty!
