According to ancient beliefs, an upright equilateral triangle, (one point at the top and two at the bas) - male and solar symbol representing - spirit, divinity, fire, life, prosperity and harmony.
The reversed triangle - female and lunar, representing - mother earth, water, rain and grace.
In Christianity and Judaism, a triangle is often used as a symbol for The Trinity.
In magick it was seen as representing the element fire (with a downward meaning water).
When upright and downward triangles are put together, they form the Star of David and symbolize balance and knowledge.

Many things, in differnet times and places.
One thing is the two sides of the Judaic god, but I can't really go into it, because I'm not Jewish.
another thing that the triangle was supposed to represent was good and evil. There is a painting, I beleive by Michelangelo, and the traditional picture of Jesus, mary, and Joseph was a trianlge- but with the single person at the bottom.
This is thought by some scholars to mean that the artist is subversively suggesting the presence of evil in the Christian-looking, commissioned painting.
Artists were forced to paint Christian themes, or starve, but they were cleverly, clandestinely rebellious!

Neww,
The triangle CAN represent the trinity, Father, Son and holy Spirit, but it can also represent other trinties such as mind, body and spirit, man woman and child, God man and wife ect..... It really does depend on how it is used and what the orrigionator of the particular triangle in question meant by using it.
