Not really. Go to DNSStuff.com and do an IP/WHOIS lookup of the IP address. You can find out who owns the IP address, usually an ISP, along with some other details. Unless it's owned by a company that doesn't resell it's internet connection, you need to supoena DHCP records to determine which user had the IP at a specific time.

Yes it is possible.
If you have the IP address you can go to websites providing free information about IP's like:
- http://www.ip2location.com/ (demo but still shows the ISP)
- http://www.maxmind.com/app/lookup_city (demo also)
- http://www.ip-adress.com/ This is the best, it will also locate the IP in a Google map, actually they are about 96 percent accurate as the IP is located within the area of the ISP's routers.
Now the hard part is to call the ISP and ask them to share the information with you... which is almost impossible as they are very cautelous when giving out information.
If your friend has a personal domain which she uses for sending emails (i.e; info@mydomain.com) unless she has privacy protection over the domain the owner's data is public and easy to be queried by anyone. You can go to the URL below to check who owns a domain and see if the address is there:
- Try http://www.domaintools.com/ query of www.yahoo.com to see what comes up.
Hope this helps... don't forget to give feedback for answers!

yes it is, all ip addresses are recorded under Regional Internet Registries . download iptools and do a reverse lookup on the ip you want to know the address of. There is a drawback, some people connect to the internet via a static ip address which is one that is assigned to you by your isp. Other people connect to the internet via a dynamic addressing from their ISP which means that one ip address is allocated to you from a pool which the isp has. If you are static you can look them up and get their real home address or the address of where the ip is registered to.
If you go to http://www.ripe.net/ and type in your ip address you will be told your name and maybe your address

Yep it's possible! There may be several ways but the only one I know is this:
-go to this site:
http://www.geobytes.com/IpLocator.htm
-enter the IP address(yours is filled in by default) and click submit
However, that may not be the exact location, it may be the location of the nearest station of your ISP(Internet Service Provider), depending on what your ISP is.
To stop people from knowing what your IP address is when you browser the web, use this site:
http://freeproxy.ca/
to enter in the URL you want and browser the net!
Hope that was helpfull.

yes and, no.
you can do I.p. address search just like a phone number search. but just ike a phone number search you have to pay for the info, and it usually isnt the right info in the end.
the I.P. address would frist need to be a static I.P. address, which means it doesnt change. it is a fixed location. for instance when you travel with a laptop, the I.P. address will change because the location/server has changed. you can narrow do to a region, or even a Internet service provider. and then try to track it down that way.
your friend might have been streching the truth, if she had any info on her computer for instance auto fill, spyware/cookies can steal info form that, and brodcast it back to the host. this is most likely what happened. she can download any one of numbers of spy/mal ware detection programs for free or trial

Your ISP knows your IP. You can check with the ISP that uses that IP address, and they could tell you, but they won't without a court order or threat of lawsuit (like the RIAA is doing).

Yes, but it usually involves hacking into the ISP that the IP is using. Also, a court order can be obtained to get the info from the ISP if the actions were illegal.
