i have a dlink 524 wireless router and have been having problems with it recently.2 weeks ago it stopped giving me my signal and after a week of looking thru my laptop i noticed my wired lan was also turned on and when i turned it off got my signal back to normal. and now its happened again but my wired lan is off. i went into my router and changed the ssid from defualt to something else and conected thru the new name but its stil giving off the defalt ssid AND ITS NOT ANOTHER ROUTER my signal has gotten a little better with my new ssid but last time i did this i only worked for a short time. ive tryed reseting the router by its mini button but that didnt work it didnt reset itself i still had to log into it with a password and all the setting hadnt reset to default. whats wrong?? is something wrong with my laptop instead?

i had gotten netstumber and my routers new firm ware last week. but this same thing happened before i had my updated my firmware hoping it was gonna be better. i just ran netstumbler and its showing default as channel 6 but my router is set on chnl 1 the day i first set it up a month ago i i had left the ssid default and chnl as 6. all my problems started on may 4th. when i within a meter of my router everythings fine but after 4 pm and weekends im stuck in my room which is farther away and a floor higher. before problems started i had a low signal but a constant 11mbps speed. now it constantly says no signal and 1mbps even tho im connected and still have a dial up speed like connection(quite slow) should i take it back to the store? i dont even know if i can exchange it(futureshop)

Is your router Revision A, C, D or E. All of these have had updates to the firmware. Which firmware version are you running?

A router that actually has two SSID's showing at the same time has a problem.. That being said your comutper could also just be showing the old and new. If you can get a copy of network stumbler and confirm your router is the issue.

Your router should be able to run the wired lan and the wireless without issue - if they do not work at the same time your router has a problem. The LAN ports are just another port and should not in any way affect the signal level of the router - it is a seperate circuit.

You may be due a new router if you have updated the firmware and 1. your lan and wifi wont run properly at the same time or 2. you really have two different SSIDs showing

Since there is only ONE transceiver in the unit two SSID's at the same time indicate a major firmware malfunction (if it is really happening.)

With a Window working pc there's a slide swap you may desire to circulate to circulate instantaneous, and it particularly is easy for this slide swap to get moved in the different direction you like in case you employ your pc as a pc, ie shifting it approximately in lots of circumstances
