Aphids, get 'em on my plum tree. Ants like the sugary goo aphids secrete and "milk" 'em. When I tried to put a lady bug on a nest of aphids, the ants plucked at her toes until she fell off.

I often get many ladybugs in the house over the winter, they love my south facing sunroom. Those that don't hibernate I've kept alive with thinly sliced apples set out on saucers.

Ladybugs are predators of many pest insects. There are even companies that take advantage of this by breeding and selling ladybugs by the ton to be spread over fields like one would dust crops.

I know they like aphids. Aphids should not be too hard to find this time of year.
