What do you get for 'stars' and 'thumbs up'. Does it really matter? do you get some kind of reward or is it just for 'ego'?

I have no clue but I know that when someone stars a question it comes up as like a promotion on a friends page to get more answers or recognition... thunmbs up on a BA can give you points.
