April....I am a real estate broker, and success in my endeavor is similar to yours. It is all about CONTACTS. You MUST advertise yourself to any social or business contacts you have previously made.
Speaking generally, if any of your previous contacts are looking to obtain a mortgage, they have no clue where to go. If you offer them a familiar name, chances are strong that they will contact you for help, simply because they recognize your name.
Sit down and develop a list of your contacts, social, business and any other that you have. Start 'farming' to them with emails or postal mail, including your business card.
Successful farming requires that you contact these folks at least every sixty days with some piece of information, whether it be a free recipe, a reminder to change their clocks at Daylight Savings time change, or any excuse you can find to contact them.
Once you develop a base clientele, handle them as professionally as possible, with great concern to THEIR needs. As time progresses, they will refer their friends to you as a valued and qualified loan officer.
Hint. this doesn't happen overnight. It takes diligence and persistence, but it pays off in the long run.
