Why don't you just have a talk one-on-one with the "parent" ?

Handled well, it could help your son, the "parent", any children the "parent" has or deals with, and you.

While not giving you legal advice, I suspect that you will be very disappointed in what legal remedies are available for this incident.

Was your son being a shithead? If he was, talk to the woman and say you do not appreciate the name calling. Then bust his little butt and talk to him about respecting adults and behaving around others. The legalities should be for parents to raise respectful children. If he was acting up bad enough to be called a name at a scout meeting at age 7, I feel for you when he becomes a teenager.

As absurd as it seems to me some states still have laws against swearing in front of woman and children. A man was prosecuted in Michigan for swearing up a storm after dropping a canoe on his toe in front of a family.

This was a couple years ago they may have ammended it since then.

Also I would say that a confrontation with the parent would be much better than legal action.

Check your city or town ordinance.

Not long ago, I found out after living here for years that my town have an ordinance against people swearing at women or children...matters not
that I am woman;if I swear at another woman or child of either sex I can be arrested and fined.

Many OLD LAWS still on the books that people are not aware of and have been breaking over and over for years...even police and judges,
I imagine have broken laws because they weren't aware they exist.

GO to Google and ask for the ordinace on swear for your area
and see what you come up with. You may have to reword your questions until google gives you what you want or call your local police station and see if they know.

None...it is constitutionally protected speech. Your only cause of action would be intentional infliction of emotional distress... in this you have to prove the conduct was outrageous which here it was and there was actual emotional distress...not just embarrasment or slight distress it must be severe....that will be the only cause of action you have....corruption of a minor is not a civil offence it is a criminal one and cussing at a child is not enough for corruption.

You could theoretically sue for "corruption of a minor", but I doubt it would get anywhere unless you have a couple million dollars for a really good lawyer. It is even commonly held that it is OK to say "****" on television now anyhow, and we all know how finicky those parent clubs are.

I would, however, speak to the person who said this to your son in a polite but firm way to not say those kinds of things to your son.

You would need to prove that your son suffered "damages" from this. No, saying it upset him or that he is now frightened is insufficient.
What actual harm did your son suffer and how much is it worth?
Hopefully you get my drift. You're making a mountain out of a molehill and clogging the courts with crap like this. Concentrate on things that matter, would you???

After listening to what Alec Baldwin said to his own child and the authorities did nothing to him, I dont think you'll be able to do anything. It's just unbelievable what some people get away with.
