Ok, first off, the first time its going to hurt and such, but the follicals will get used to it given some time.
The best time I've found to do it is just out of the shower or someplace steamy. Pores and everything open in the heat and moisture and it seems to make it a little easier.
Also the first time, you might want to have someone do it for you to give you an idea of how much you want to pluck. Alternatively, you can use the pencil method. Take a pencil and line up in the inside corner of your eye and the very top of the bridge of your nose (where skull and nose actually begin to merge). That'll give you a basic idea of where to cut off the plucking and leave your brows alone. And for the first time, don't be afraid to err on the side of caution. Overplucked brows look funny and it'll amke you more uncomfortable about doing it again.

I like Sunnyman's answer but would like to add that it's not so much the guys putting pressure on women to look a certain way. It's the media and other women. I have asked so many women about this and they all agree that they compete against other women to look better and stay on the top of their game. Guys don't care what brand you are wearing - they don't care what combination of clothes, or if you have Uggs boots, Abercrombie or how many handbags you have but women seem to compete with other women for these things. Another thing is that the media glamourises the stick thin image and other images yet the women support them by buying the magazines. They should vote with their money by not supporting such magazines. It also seems that no matter how many times guys say they prefer natural boobs, even if they are flat boobs, an increasing number of women still seem hellbent on cosmetic surgery and breast implants. So I do believe they are competing with other women. Men can't really win though because if they DO take care of their appearance then some people will say they are "gay" or "metrosexual" and make fun, and if they don't take care of themselves then people will say they are ugly or plain. Personally I work out a lot and am very sporty, so I have a muscled body. I don't have short plain hair - mine is just like Chace Crawford's. It is medium, naturally straight with the same style.

My boyf plucks his eyebrows. Id recommend doing it after a bath as the pores of the hair will be more open from the heat making them easier to pluck! Dont do it just before going out though, you may be a bit pink and sore!? Failing that why dont you go to a local beauty salon and get them waxed into shape? I recon lots of guys do this and sod everyone who takes the pi$$. At least its done in one swoop and the pain lasts a few seconds. Whatever you do, dont pluck from the top, you may ruin the natural shape of your eyebrows. Once you have them waxed a couple of times, it will probably be easier to see where to pluck them yourself. Invest in a good pair of tweezers, they come in 2 styles, straight or slanted. Happy plucking x

I have just recently been introduced to the world of waxing my brows. Let me tell you: it beats the plucking HANDS DOWN! I would tell you how I think would be the best plucking techniques, but Diana my wax-artiste, would laugh if I tried! I am a converted amateur and I have to say: go get your brows waxed! Seriously. Diana (my waxist) told me that she waxes quite a few men (she won't divulge who or what areas!) -- I bet about 20% of her clientèle are males. It did not hurt and it was not expensive. After you get your brows done by a professional it is much easier to maintain the look with tweezing. Good luck! I'm happy to give you Diana's number!

For the first timer, I always recommend getting a pro to do it--then you can follow their lines afterwards for upkeep. Otherwise, there are these eyebrow stencils you can use. Not sure how user friendly they are, but they may guarantee a good and even shape. Just remember to pluck after you've bathed and pluck in the same direction as hair growth, rather than against it. Afterwards, apply a calming/soothing cream. Aftershave should work too.

You aren't becoming a woman. I have a horrendous monobrow and have been plucking it for years. It hurts like hell but gets easier. I tend to get the other half to do it after a couple of glasses of wine, but if you are too young to drink and/or don't have a g/f then ask your mum to do it. Pluck from below the eyebrow first, and then the bits in the middle and the few stray hairs over the top.

Since you've never had this done before you should go to a professional salon and have them do it. They will know exactly how much to take off and how to shape them. I prefer to have my eyebrows shaped by a method called threading, although sometimes it is difficult to find people who do this method of hair removal. Threading is the removal of hair with thread and it lasts longer than any other method. If you are unable to find someone who does threading then I would recommend have your eyebrows done with hot wax, you can find eyebrow waxing procedures offered at most nail salons and beauty parlors.

Scrap all the above answers and try this for starters!!
Get an old toothbrush, and wet it. Comb your brows in an upward direction. You're going to need some good sharp scissors now!! Snip any hairs that are showing above the brow, and repeat as often as needed!!! This will thin out your brows without changing the shape!!!
This way avoids looking like a drag act, and no one will ever know!!! It's worked for me for years now!!!
