I have an associates degree in office information systems, which I think is basically the same as computer information technology. I'm continuing my education to get a bachelors in either management or communications, but in the meantime, I'd like to get a part-time job, utilizing my associates degree. Having that degree, I'm sure that I am qualified for almost any clerical position, but I was just wondering if anyone else had the same degree, and where they are working. Or if they know of any other types of jobs that "go" with a degree in office information systems. Thanks!

I would look for support/help desk type of job initially so you can get a wide range of experience in IT then choose a particular focus such as programming, database administration, or network administration as you gain your bachelors degree.

Speaking as someone who has taught business and computers for many years, I can tell you that it's possible to gain employment with just an Associates Degree.

You have to realize that you're not really qualified yet to work in heavy-duty IS, but you can probably find an entry-level job. Now you have to realize that many clerical support people do work with databases and information. When I worked as an Admin Asst many years ago, I used my computer skills to improve how they handled information, and it was a good first step.

Now a Bachelors Degree will definitely improve your chances of working more in IS or MIS, however if you can get into a support role with helpdesk or tech support, then that would be closer to your degree field.

But the main thing for you at this stage is to get into a company first at some level that uses part of your skills. Once you're onboard, you can more easily move into other areas that are even more closely associated with your degree.
