If you think that you have been hit with a virus, why don't you just scan your pc with your anitvirus software. If you are using your pc, without an antivirus software that is not really smart.
You don't say how big the file is. You can check your Task Mgr., to see how much resources the file is using. Maybe it is just to much for your pc.
Here is a free excellent antivirus program from AOL, Active Virus Shield. You will get automatic updates every hour on the hour and has an excellent background scanner, powered by Karpersky of Russia, rated # 1 in the world for virus detection. AOL, will only ask you for our email so they can send you a key good for one year. After one year just request a new key.

Where did you save the file that you have downloaded? Did you save that to your desktop? Are there any other files or folders with huge files in it that is in your desktop? Do you have a picture as a wallpaper? If yes, please remove them from your desktop because it is eating up your system memory.
Also, please run disk cleanup (select everything then hit ok ) and disk defragmenter ( your c drive ) to make your computer run faster. This will do the trick. It doesn't mean when your computer runs slow it has a virus.

Update and run your Anti-Virus program. Don't have one? You can run a free online scan from CA.
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx
Run Spybot and Adaware weekly.
Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/... . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.
Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaw...
Now to prevent spyware from being installed in the first place....
Download SpywareBlaster---http://majorgeeks.com/download2859.html
SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed.
It's main features include:
- Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
- Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
- Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
