That phrase refers to a nice wholesome girl. A girl who is not slutty, someone sweet. It is just a term to describe a girl who isn't wild.Remember the song lyrics...she's not the girl next door , she's not the woman in red (vixen) meaning she isn't too wild but she isn't miss goody two shoes, she like s a little mischief and surprise.

When I think of the term it means a down-to-earth girl that you would find next door. Playboy uses the term because they find attractive women and what seperates them from other attractive women is that they are the kind of women you'd find next door. Hope that makes sense but look up my citation for more.

It means you won't be taken seriously by your guy friends you wish were your boyfriend. It means you're pretty, but in a normal way, and accessible. You don't have to actually live next door, but the idea is that you're familiar. Also maybe you grew up together.

The girl whose proximity makes her a bit off-limits: siblings, friends, childhood history, etc. Nobody fails to notice her many levels of desirability: brains, beauty, kindness, etc. But you also grew up with her--school, played sports, did homework, etc. The familiarity is too close. If you meet up with her when you're older, it still takes courage to ask her out. She's still unattainable because she seems so pure. But most guys know she's marriage material and the type to take home to your parents. But, they've already known her forever, so it's not a big deal:)!

It's an American reference means a wholesome, nice girl that everyone likes. She's pretty, but not too pretty. (Usually means white, as well -- correct me if I'm wrong but I've never heard of a black or hispanic girl referred to as "the girl next door" type -- that is unless she actually lives in the house next to yours but that's entirely different, lol).
