Its all about conserving energy and saving money. It it is lower in the winter the heater will not have to run as much to keep the house warm if there is a cooler setting. Same for the Summer. If you have the thermostat set a little higher. It will not kick on till hit is hotter to cool the house down. Believe me when you start paying heating and cooling bills you know what your thermostat is set at throughout the year. Every degree change equals $$$

My central air & furnace use the same thermostat. I leave my thermostat on 77 when the c/a is on. When we have cooler, not cold temps in the winter, we keep the thermostat set at 70-72 during the day & at night, we turn the thermostat down to 66-68 for more comfy sleeping.

You read the penelope cruz answer, huh? That person was saying that if people could stand to keep their houses a little warmer in the summer and a little cooler in the winter it would reduce the extra energy it would take to get it just "perfect" inside.

Its called humidity, in the summer the humidity is high, it makes it feel hotter. That's the reason a dehumidifier is good to use in your house in the summer, it makes your house cooler so your AC don't run as much . In the winter use a humidifier to make your house feel warmer.

It saves electricity and heating oil or gas. In the winter your boiler would have to work harder to maintain a higher temperature. In the summer your air conditioning would have to work harder to maintain a lower temperature.

In the winter there is less humidity so if its too hot in your house in the winter it is very dry and makes your skin itchy
