probably on it's way then. Just be very easy on it and you may get more miles out of it before you have to replace it. Maybe try getting a tranny flush and see if that helps as well.

You'll know when it goes out though, you'll push on the gas but not go anywhere.

The 'jump' that you feel when the gears shift is most likely the universal joints in your drive shaft. They are made to go out, so that the gear change doesn't damage the transmission. Get your U-joints replaced now or replace the whole drive system later. Take your pick.

Does this jump happen when you are just putting it into gear from park to say reverse or drive? Or is it while you are driving? If it is the first, I'd check your u joints, if it is the latter then smell your transmission fluid. Does it smell burned? If so it may be too late. A conditioner may help. Justice Brothers has a good one so does Trans Medic. Both are just a band aid though.

Give the dipstick a whiff. If it smells burned change the fluid. It may also be a dirty filter. I would recommend taking it to a Jiffy Lube or such anyway for a complete fluid change and filter. Make sure whoever does it pumps the fluid out of the torque converter or you will be just adding clean fluid to the old. The fluid and filter change will cost around $90 but it may save you $1500. Also some transmission shops will give your tranny a diagnostic for a nominal fee. They may find that the bands need adjusting, a fairly simple fix for them.

you,ll know it from the way it shifts in to gears and also when it slips once in a while,or hesitates sometimes when you put it in gear and it doesn't take right away, also the fluid will have a burnt smell to it,and it will be discolored,it will give a few warning signs before it goes out,or it should anyway, good luck with it.

Mine went with no warning at all. Just sitting at a stoplight and pressed on the gas, heard a clunk, and then the car didn't move any more.
