To answer your question:

Yes, most *nix based systems use WBEM (Web Based Enterprise Management System) instead.
Microsoft's WMI is really just their implementation of WBEM.

nicely, I put in Linux - Ubuntu on my computer and discover it greater sturdy than domicile windows. It runs quicker and desires not one of the consistent upkeep domicile windows is plagued with alongside with defragging as an occasion. Defragging is merely not required in Linux. Linux is likewise greater shield - as maximum malware is written for domicile windows. i attempted getting access to my computer and that is ext3 partition from my domicile windows Vista (NTFS) and it style of feels lots greater difficult than getting access to yet another domicile windows gadget. On my domicile windows gadget, I consistently ought to make certain that my anti-virus, anti spyware utility is as much as this ingredient jointly as my Linux computer has been working super with none protection purposes. Linux isn't "hack evidence" in spite of the undeniable fact that it is not going to take place. i detect that Linux makes use of much less memory and CPU aspects than domicile windows. Linux is loose and there are various loose purposes obtainable alongside with OpenOffice.

Agreed with redsoxer. =]

As windows is shitty and has no scripting support, microsoft included WMIC.

But most of the commands carried on windows using WMIC can be directly excuted on terminal with some smart use of cat operator to yeild same results as WMIC, it all depends on your perspective.

But as redsoxer is said we have WBEM for linux.
