is it true that things aren't good with mexico in california?
this isn't a racist comment, but I heard that in San diego is not good to be a Mexican.
I'm mexican and I'm moving to san diego. how are things in reality? should I worry? I'm college educated and speak 3 languages and I probably want to work.

I live in San Diego and go to school here, and see no problem with racism here more than any other place. In fact, I grew up in the Midwest and I think I've seen less discrimination here in San Diego than I did back in the Midwest.
There are many Hispanics here, and the community is very large and welcoming...my boyfriend is Mexican and I've never witnessed any discrimination with him, even though we are an interracial couple.
You should be fine, just relax and enjoy yourself, enjoy the good weather and most of all, good luck!

No-you should not be worried. I am Mexican and have lived here my whole 28 years. I went to elementary and high school in predominently white neighbohoods and have never had any problems then or now. It is certainly not bad to be a Mexican in San Diego! There are so many Latinos here, I mean, this land used to be Mexico so naturally...
Of course there is ignorance in every part of the world, but not more here than other places. Besides its all about the way you carry yourself. Educated, 3 languauges,...you'll be fine. =)

discrimination is illegal, but hate does exist.
it all depends on where you wanna be. where you wanna work at. people in san diego think that all mexicans are illegal aliens.and don't be surprised if you are treated like one.
even though as I said they can't really do anything against you, cause you could sue.
also try not to be too much in the sun, be the lightest possible.

This is an old thread but I have to say that after having lived in San Diego for 7 years now and having moved here after having been raised in south Mississippi and going to school and starting my career in south Alabama, yes there is racism here. It is usually not all in your face, but when you speak Spanish and receive a reply in broken English it is not because of lack of racism. By no means is this Miami. Hardly anywhere here do you feel like Latinos are really making it and there is zero community.
