Hello,
My father has a property with 4 smaller lakes on it. One of the lakes is supplied with water from a nearby spring. All the lakes are very deep. Is it possible to stock them with trout and if so, woudl the trout breed?

Yes they can. Brown trout (Salmo trutta) are probably the best choice, depending on water temperature. Rainbow trout will do well and breed in large, cooler ponds and since these are deep they may work.

It is possible for trout to spawn in lakes, however the lake bottoms have a lot to do with it. Each species of fish likes to spawn in a certain environment. Some like soft sand bottoms, some prefer gravel. Find out what your lakes are like. It may not be worth it if the trout will not spawn. Even one good bed of prefered spawning ground will help.
