HSBC stands for The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation. Was started by a Scot for Far East trading purposes. My family's had the account in India for years and they have been great. I've had an online savings account here in the U.S. for a year now and that has been faring good (they have some of the best interest rates). Their internet banking is very secure and customer service HAS to be one of the best. I've never had ant problems with them so far. I'll be opening a foreign exchange account with them and they allow wire transfers for free and it takes 3-4 business days (and they have been pretty good about it too).
For me they aren't great for a day-to-day account bank because I live out of their operation region in the U.S. since they don't have ATMs all over the country. I would recommend them for savings and for foreign currency holdings.

Overall, my experience as a user has been very good.

Good Luck!
