i had the alternator and battery checked recently and they were fine. what could be the problem?

Alternator may be working but not putting out enough amps to keep up with high demand and it's draining your battery. Basically, your alternator runs all the electrical items on the car when it's running....if the load is too great for it to keep up, the power will come from the battery, it will discharge and eventually go dead. Replace the alternator and maybe go with a higher amp rating one if you can...it never hurts to have more amps.

Have a different shop load test the alternator and battery.

take your battery into checkers if there is one where you live and have them put your battery on a heavy duty charger. that will tell you what the cranking amps are for your battery. you may need a new battery

Sounds like a direct short from the compressor, it might be your computer as well>>
