That isnt true, and you are wrong. [The men and women that are fighting chose to do it, you can't MAKE someone do it, you are implying that everyone has to go, this isnt Iraq where we dont have a choice.] even if there is a draft, we still have a choice. the choice is war or jail, but still its a choice. i guess

I'd re-enlist now but I am overage.
BTW, you are wrong, women do serve in "direct combat" right now in the U.S. military in many capacities, not infantry troops, but as pilots and as support staff, a couple have been P.O.W.'s already.
The volunteer Army is bad for every citizen, it leads to eventual takover by the Army. Historical antecedent? see Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.
Present example? see the vast difference in opinion polls between military and non-military citizens regarding the war, President Bush, etc. Plus, if everyone serves the military has more talent and effectiveness.

Depends.
I would only go for a draft in a defensive war on our land (unless they manage to really convince me a country is a threat-unlikely though since theyve lied about it frequently in the past). Meaning in US History Id have only been pro-draft for the CSA during the Civil War and for the US during the Revolution.
If for an offensive war or war of conquest or anything-Id leave in a heartbeat. I do not believe the draft should be used in that way.
I expect this to anger some people, but those people will be happy about this---I'll not leave and just hide then return when its over. If we do a draft for something I consider wrong I will happily give up my US citizenship as it will mean that either the gov't is no longer listening to the people, or the rest of the country's beliefs are so far from mine that I would be better off elsewhere.

Very hypothetical because of my age (old, not young), but YES. My duty as a citizen would compel me to go.
I also think that war SHOULD be fought with draftees, because it democratizes (small d, everyone) the national commitment to whatever cause is at stake... and if that cause is misguided, there are more people with a stake in the issues and more incentive to participate in how our country decides to go or not to go to war.
Yes, the Pentagon prefers volunteers because training is more efficient and more focused, but as it stands right now, they've run out of "desirable" recruits and have started accepting dropouts and people with misdemeanors and minor offenses. In other words, our military has reached the limit of marginal diminishing returns. So, a draft would IMPROVE our forces at this point.

I would absolutely go to war if I could. I've tried enlisting before, but due to health problems, I was unable. I consider it a great honor to fight for your country. Because I'm ineligible to fight in the military, I do everything I can to support our troops. I hope this answers your question.

well, most wouldn't have much of a choice... not everyone can afford to run to Canada, and besides, few would probably want to...
for the government to actually install a draft in today's world, they would probably need quite a formidable threat, otherwise, it would be very harmful to the party pushing the draft idea...
so yes

I am a woman who is too old to be drafted. If the draft applied to women and I were of age, I would go.

the prospect that the draft will be reinstated each and every time quickly is slender to none. Your instructor sounds a touch intense in her expectancies. if you're fairly stressful about the draft, basically keep in concepts you may continually steer sparkling of it in Canada or drag up any psychological well-being subject matters you've. Being gay maximum probably does no longer help you, considering the fact that do not Ask do not tell is contained in the works for being abolished. yet heavily-- the draft isn't coming back. Politicians were introducing Selective provider expenditures to Congress for years and years, and they continually get shot down (no pun meant). no individual ought to be the consultant who voted convinced on the invoice that despatched their parts' little ones off to warfare adversarial to their will.

Sorry to say no, I would go to jail. This is my country and we have a leader that won't listen to the public or congress or the United Nations. His allies are starting to leave him at least they are starting to see the light. No matter what we do, there is going to be civil war there, and the sad part is that it is over religion. Hopefully our leader will see this and bring our troops home and put the money we are wasting over there to helping the people that need it here.
