No. There are many reasons why you should NOT be watching your weight while pregnant. The doctor only monitors it at every prenatal visit because a sudden jump in weight can indicate a complication developing.
There is not actually any evidence that babies are better off when their mothers keep their weight within the guidelines. Those "guidelines" are actually averages, and some women naturally will gain more or less while eating whenever hungry. All the studies so far have only found that low weight gain goes along with delivering early - both premature, and simply "not late" deliveries - hardly a call for recommending dieting.
What we do know for sure is that the baby needs a set amount of nutrients, particularly calcium, protein, and fats. Without proper amounts of these, the baby will not develop to his full potential. Particularly without fats, the baby's brain will not develop as well as it should. Do you want to deny your baby a few IQ points to match some silly chart of averages?
If you have never had a weight problem before, there is no reason to think you will have one after the baby is born. I have 3 kids, and especially after 7-8 months, the pounds just dropped off. I should note that I gained 50 pounds with my son, and was within 5 pounds of my original weight when I concieved my daughter (he was 10 months old at that time.) There was alonger gap between my daughter and my next pregnancy, and I was back to my "normal" weight by the time I concieved.
Eat a variety of foods when you are hungry, and don't eat when you're not hungry. If you didn't have weight "issues" before, you probably won't later, either. Remeber, 7-10 pounds of pregnancy weight, or more, are stored as fat for use during breastfeeding. That is healthy and normal - every part of you gets bigger during a normal pregnancy. Do what's best for baby right now and EAT. You can walk off the weight by chasing her around the house or walking to the playground with her later, I promise.
EDIT: Do NOT measure your thighs. As I said, a healthy pregnancy includes a weight gain for future breastfeeding, and much of that will land on your thighs. Your body doesn't know that baby formula exists, so don't starve yourself because you think you're getting "fat" due to heavy thighs. I would challenge the other ladies that posted about whether or not they have actually lost the weight after having healthy babies, or if they are actually still pregnant and still advising you to diet.

I lost 25lbs during my pregnancy, so I never gained a single pound. Then after I gave birth I lost another 33lbs. I ate small meals all day and I gave up a lot of things. I wasn't trying to lose weight, but I just did.

If you don't put on extra weight you wont weigh extra after your pregnancy. If you breast feed and is very active you might end up loosing more than what you started with.
The best way to see that you are not putting on extra weight is by measuring your upper leg. That should stay the same during pregnancy. If it gets smaller, you are not gaining enuogh etc.

I gained the recommended 30 pounds during pregnancy. During the pregnancy i gave caffeinated drinks, anything with salt, and i walked alot! And thankfully i lost it all. But don't expect it to all come off right after labor, sometimes it can take some time. I was so upset, when my mother-in-law came to visit me at the hospital and told me "i thought you had the baby!" Just try not to stress yourself out about it.

I have eaten healthy throughout my entire pregnancy and gained 25 lbs, mostly all in the tummy! I feel confident that I will be able to lose it pretty quickly! Just don't use your pregnancy as an exuse to eat whatever you want! I ate ALL the time, but I ate healthy, fresh foods! I feel great!

I tried to watch what I ate, not my weight. With my first pregnancy, I gained 55 pounds. I lost 60 afterwards.
