I have been told that my grandfather designed the yankee logo (the one with the bat and ball), His father owned a uniform company in New York City. He is deceased so he obviously can not put the family rumor to bed..... Anyone know?

I am not talking about The "NY" that is seen on the hats. I am talking about the bat and ball with the hat on it. that says "yankees"

According to the Yankees web site, it was designed by Louis Tiffany for a medal given to an NYPD officer. From there, the Yankees adopted it and have used it since:
