Eggplants, when I was in 5th grade, I was in a contest for the Knights of Columbus, and they provided the plants- tomatos and eggplant. Doesn't seem too exotic now, but in 1968 or 1969 on Long Island, it seemed pretty unusual.

Last year something grew in my garden that I did not plant. It was a combination of a pumpkin and some kind of squash. Weird looking and quite large. I left it for the squirrels. Since I don't eat either and have never planted either in my garden, it's a mystery.

nothing unusual
just the usual for me
potatoes, tomatoes, raspberries, strawberries, spinach, carrots, beetroot, onions, lettuce, cabbage, cauliflower, blueberries, gooseberries, peas, beans, brocolli, herbs, & cucumber, peppers in the greenhouse
there's probably more than that in at the moment, that's just off the top of my head

Cream corn!!! Now, what was I thinking? Actually, when my middle son was in the first grade, he asked my husband & I, if we could plant cream corn in our garden one summer.
