Since you did not say who these Americans are, or how it is that you have concluded that these unnamed Americans consider the Constitution obsolete, your question is rather silly, eh?

They believe it is obsolete because the government treats it as if it is. The republicans allow the patriot act and the campaign finance reform bill to erode our constitutional protections while the democrats want to give everything to everybody for free (socialism) and take away the Second Amendment which is the only thing that has any hope of keeping government in check. They both want to keep growing the government, so we have a nanny country that tells us what we can and can't do in more and more aspects of our lives. Does anyone really believe we need more government?

Perhaps some Americans are feeling that a certain amount of their rights under the Constitution have not been applicable since legislation such as the Patriot Act have been passed.
I have heard it said that "Giving up liberties has been considered the price for safety during these interesting times. "
I still believe that the liberties granted by the constitution can be had but they are rights that must be exercised. Now a days, many americans are so bombarded, distracted, over-worked and just trying to pay their bills that they have little time to give to such subjects.

I hope it's a pitiful few who think that, but I fear otherwise. I think people who see it as obsolete are:
A) convinced that God is running our show, ergo no heavy lifting required to keep our Republic,
and/or
B) so incuriously comfortable in their situations that they don't comprehend or don't accept that there are people around the world literally rotting in jail cells because they voiced the desire for a constitution just like ours.
Gotta have my Constitution, baby!
[added] OK, I *gotta* know who the fk would down-arrow the Constitution.

Communists are heavily influencing the public schools. They love evolution because it eliminates God, so might can make right. It's not logical to assume that we evolved from rocks without anything even to guide the process. Life is extremely complicated. The ACLU, very much concerned about public education and the separation of church and state, was founded by Roger Baldwin for the purpose of advancing communism around the world. Karl Marx's main objectives were to dethrone God and destroy capitalism and he actually tried to dedicate the Communist Manifesto to Charles Darwin. Darwin refused. I bet if Marx had remained a Christian his whole life, instead of converting to atheism after college, he wouldn't have ever written the Communist Manifesto and millions of lives would've been saved. Our public schools have pretty much dethroned God in favor of naturalism, materialism, and secular humanism. Socialism is very popular too. People think that the federal gov't should take care of them and that was not the intention of the Constitution if you interpret it strictly. In fact, you're not even supposed to have public schools on the national level under a strict interpretation of the Constitution. Getting rid of public schools and other programs not specificly defined in the Constitution would help decrease the national debt. I think the influence of public education is the main reason that many disregard the Constitution. People would think differently if they researched for themselves instead of relying on their public education. I know I did.

No one actually thinks that. But many try to fit the Constitution to their beliefs about what government should be.

GWB is the only one I know of that acts that way but obsolete isn't the correct word, it still has value as toilet tissue for him.

because our govt ignores our Constitution, and we have our laws. Americans are forced to follow the laws. but any one else coming here does not, and gets away with it.
