Going for fireworks in a couple of difference venues will actually give you a great Chicago experience.
The display at Taste of Chicago on the 3rd is a great chance to enjoy Grant Park and eat some great food from about 150 of the cities restaurants that all set up booths in the park. The food is a bit pricey, but if you make a lunch and evening of it, you can sample all sorts of restaurants, and then hang out at the lake for the fireworks.
Then, the night of the 4th of July, the White Sox are playing and will have fireworks after the game at the new Comisky (I'll NEVER call it by that other name!).
So, 2 nights of fireworks is better than 1, and you get to experience a lot of the REAL Chicago!!

Chicago proper has canceled its fireworks for the Fourth this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days via shootings that surpassed off final 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. My very own well known for reflects is at Niles West severe college, an intensive to north suburb. this is part of the Skokie Park District's celebrations. basically fireworks i've got seen that have been extra constructive have been at DisneyWorld... and that i'm from Philadelphia initially.

july 3rd every year,at the pier. and wear comfortable shoes. you'll be lucky to find somewhere to sit. (unless your an early bird.) hope you like big crowds too. july 3rd is the most populated day of the taste of chicago, due to the fireworks. usually an estimated 1 million in attendance....

It's the 3rd. Navy Pier has fireworks on the 4th, which are nice but not quite as spectacular.
