you used an Internet Optimizer that just didn't optimize your internet, instead
it made it slower? If you answered yes to any of the questions above, then XP
TCP/IP Repair may help fix your internet connection and possibly even protect
your privacy.XP TCP/IP Repair is a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for commands
in Windows XP that repair your TCP/IP registry settings and your Winsock LSP's.Instead
of having trying to remember long confusing command line commands you can now
just click a button. What is an LSP?Layered Service Providers (LSP) are small
pieces of software that can be added or inserted into the Windows TCP/IP handler
by other software. Data outward bound from your computer to a legitimate destination
on the Internet can be intercepted by an LSP and sent somewhere other than where
you intend it to go.

If you have Windows XP Service pack 2, you can do a 'mini' winsock fix
by typing: -
netsh winsock reset catlog
If this doesn't work, or you don't have SP2, then you need a full
Winsock fix. Before doing this, check your symptons. Usually, you can
connect to the internet, but can't visit any webpages etc. You can
usually ping IP addresses with no problem. If this sound like your
problem, your best bet would be to search google for 'Winsock Fix' as
there are programs that can do this for you. You can also do it
manually, which isn't that easy, but here is a link anyway.
Win9x - http://www.apisto.plus.com//2/Commsfix95_me.htm
XP - http://www.apisto.plus.com//2/xpwinsock.htm
I'm not 100% on Windows 2000, but I think that the XP fix should work
It never seems to amaze me that ISP tech will tell you the problem, but not how to fix it!

How did the tech come to this conclusion? Are you not able to get onto the internet with one of your computers? Open a command line and type the word ipconfig.
Start-->Run-->cmd and hit Enter. then type ipconfig and hit Enter.
Do you see an IP address? Or do you get a message something like "...attempted on something that is not a socket"?
If you get an IP address, there is nothing wrong with your winsoc. If you do get an error, and are running Windows XP, try typing the following command in the same command window:
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
then try typing the following two commands in order:
ipconfig/release
Enter
ipconfig/renew
Enter
Do you have an IP address now? If not, you may need to take it in to a shop and have them reset it for you if possible.
Cheers

Just go to start, run, then type the letters "cmd" This brings up a command prompt. Type the command "netsh winsock reset catalog" ---This will reset your winsock.
