That is a Nature vs. Nurture question that will be debated for a long long time. Some will tell you that yes a child's sexual identity is established at birth, others will tell you it is learned along the way.
Personally I believe the answer is no. So many things shape our gender identity as we grow and mature that sexuality is only one small part. Notice I am not saying a person chooses to be gay, instead I say they learn to be gay.
What I mean by 'learn to be gay' is that a person develops hero's or people they look up to. They tend to emulate these role models and develop feelings towards them. Those feelings, depending on how they are nurtured, can develop into a lifestyle that includes homosexuality.
I don't think I will ever be able to embrace a theory that says a person is gay at birth. Even Freud's psycho-sexual development theories lean to learned over genetic behavior.
Hope that helps.

There are many different scientific aspects of being homosexual. There are differences in the brain development and chemistry between males and females. This may lead to homosexuality. There are certain chemicals that a pregnant woman can be exposed to that seem to increase the chances of changing brain development. Nothing has been definitively proven though. There is NOT a gene for being homosexual, however a gene was found that may account for femininity. It is a highly debatable and controversial subject, even in the scientific community. Maybe we will find out more proof someday. For more information I would suggest searching scientific journals at a local library.

Scientific researchers have shown that being gay is based on biological and genetic factors.
An October 2004 scientific research publication stated that scientists at the University of Padua have found that women tend to have more children when they inherit the same genetic factors linked to homosexuality in men. This fertility boost more than compensates for the lack of offspring fathered by gay men, and keeps the “gay” genetic factors in circulation.
Another study published in Human Genetics in February 2006 examined X chromosome inactivation in mothers of gay sons and mothers whose sons were not gay. Researchers found extreme differences between women who had gay sons and women who did not.
A Canadian university study published in June of 2006 stated that, although researchers have known for years that a man's likelihood of being gay rises with the number of older biological brothers, that the new study found that the so-called "fraternal birth order effect" persists even if gay men were raised away from their biological families.

No this is a well established that people are born people. Being gay is a learned chosen diaviant behavior. The polls stay the same. About 3 percent. What scary is people openly experiment with " I am straight ,,,I am gay , I am bi..no I prefer straight right now. The real is it not biological is with the use of hormones in validate experiements it was proven when a straight person recieved more of the homones that promoted sex drive...he or she desired more sex but with the member of the right sex... the exact same thing happpened to gay people. The biological impulse to have sex is as mental as it is physical. I personally know about a dozen people who were professed gay who chose to be straight. For many reasons. The point if one can choose to be gay then choose not to be. It is most likly a mental process only. Can people be more or less excepting of the act, yes. Do people experiment with different types of sex.. Yes! They latch on what turns them on. So the fact is it is deviant (different) behavior to be gay. It is not normal by any stretch of the word. There are other arguments to support this.

The current research indicates that sexual preference is due to a complex interplay of a number of factors, including prenatal environment and exposure and experiences in childhood, working on a genetic predisposition.
So, the answer is yes, one can be be born with a strong preference for the same gender. Whether that person will ultimately become a homosexual is not set in stone however.

My personal opinion (and that is all I can offer at this point because there is no real scientific proof either way) is that we all have certain tendencies from birth. These tendencies all vary by individual, and range from homosexuality to alcoholism to strong spirituality. In each of us the tendencies exist, but require some form of nurture or example or lack of nurture to become a prevalent behavior or personality trait. For example, you may find someone with a high tendency for alcoholism that is raised in an alcohol free home with strict standards against drinking and later in life experiments with alcohol and becomes addicted immediately. You may also have a person raised by a raging alcoholic and exposed to it daily who never becomes addicted because they have a low tendency to alcoholism. I could give very similar examples for homosexuality, obesity, spirituality, pornography, etc. However, I don't feel these things are beyond our ability to control simply because we have a tendency to them. An alcoholic can work very hard to fight against being addicted, an obese person can work very hard to lose weight and not let food control them. And in that, I feel someone with a tendency toward homosexuality has the choice to not give in to that tendency as well.

It is an undeniable fact that homosexuality occurs in many species of the animal kingdom. Since animals lack the capability to make a so called "lifestyle choice", yes, I believe as in animals, human beings are born gay.

NO absolutely not!
Genetically, every child born is either male or female. To say that a girl whose sexual organs resemble a boy's is part-boy is like saying that a baby whose arms resemble flippers is part-seal. She doesn't need to mate with other girls anymore than he needs to eat raw fish. What she needs is restorative surgery, which usually corrects the problem.
Because of mis-leading propaganda, many believe homosexuality is ' in-born ', scientific research does not support this conclusion at all. Homosexuality is a emotional disorder involving same-sex desires. It boils down to a choice which is made for one to indulge in such activities. People aren't doing themselves any good by engaging in homosexual behavior anyway as it's contrary to our physical design, it leads to injury, disease, and early death. Also it's contrary to our emotional design, it destroys happiness and because it's contrary to our spiritual design, it alienates us from God.
Therefore, homosexuality is a condition that, is contrary to nature. Biologically, it is simply not natural or normal.

I personally don't believe so. I've know straight people go gay after a lot of peer pressure. I've known gay people go straight after finding a religion. I've been pressured by gay people to "give it a try." (Ok, it wasn't a gay people, it was one transgendered who's bisexual) If one is gay or straight upon birth, why am I given the opportunity to "give it a try" when I know I'm straight?
