Its faster. It really doesn't matter if your going on the internet only though. The internet does not go that fast. Only good for local networks.

It's an antiquated term that refers to 100Mb/s ethernet vs. the older 10Mb/s ethernet standard. Most ethernet connections today are what's called "Gigabit Ethernet", which refers to a 1000Mb/s network speeds.

over ethernet is an expression like sending data over ethernet hardware

fast ethernet is actual hardware it can send data at speeds from 100 bytes per sec up to 1000 bytes per second
