Matt, My daughter gave my wife a Cannon power-shot 525 6 or 7 mega-pixel camera last summer. I'm amazed at the sharpness and detail (eyelids, strands of hair) true color on human faces and overall ease of use.

We've just returned from Japan to see the old temples and and a little countryside by train. She shot 643 photos with her camera and there wasn't a dog among them

I've got a a couple of Nikon 35mm cameras with a few Nikon lenses with which I've compared pictures with. She's got me beat with still photos. However the internal flash limit is about 15 feet when needed. Outdoors in adequate light for stills hers is very equal to my old cameras.

Do to the extreme shutter speeds on my old cameras the 35mm cameras are better. I also have an external flash that's good for 80 feet in pitch dark.

I have a Canon Rebel Xt, D20 and an XTi, I like the price of the 10 Megapixel XTi only around 800 bucks and it makes beautiful pictures and you are able to accesorize it with different lenses to suit your needs.

You might put this in the Photog Q&A

hands down, buy a Kodak! They are the best by far and make excellent pics! Plus they've got a reputation, been around since the beginning of time. HP stuff sucks, all there stuff, cameras, printers, computers, etc... Cannon, my sister has a Cannon digital and has nothing but probs with it constantly, and it cost alot more than my little Kodak!

Canon Sure Shots are pretty reasonably priced and take some excellent pics. There are quite a few models of this particular camera and it seems like 1 or more is on sale at least every week.

Pick one up that has a nice warrenty. And something easy for you to understand and not anyone else. Id recommend Sony. The color on the ones over 200 dollers are very nice. Also do some price research looking to make sure you dont get taken advantage of.

Go with Canon. I just sold my Nikon 7900 because I am going to purchase the Canon SD800. No matter what - get one with Image Stabilization. And remember...anything with 5 megapixels is enough. You don't need a 7,8, or 10 mp camera.
