Hard drive space generally doesn't have a whole lot to do with performance, until you fill it nearly all the way full. Though fragments on your hard drive can cause slowdown. To keep your hard drive running smooth, it should be defragmented regularly. Try to avoid the windows defragmentation program, as Diskeeper Lite is much faster - http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=1207
The cause of your slowdown could also be due to too many running processes, or spyware/viral processes that are running. If you have too many processes on start up, run the command 'msconfig' and go to the startup tab. Uncheck any unnessesary programs that start up and you don't use. Next, make sure your antivirus and antispyware programs are up to date and scan regularly. Spybot - Search and Destroy and AVG Antivirus are both free and available to download for personal use.

That can be cause by a small amount of RAM (Random Access memory). Also by a slow processor. If your system was running fast before, then it also could be that you have several applications running in the background, or even spyware.
Spyware is malicious software that gets downloaded onto your computer and then monitors your activity. Use either:
AVG Free spyware remover
AVG Free Anti-virus
Spybot
Windows Live One Care
Good luck! ;-)

You might try defragmenting the hard drive and doing a disk cleanup. If you have Windows Vista, especially Home Premium, it uses a lot more RAM than is required, which would make it slower. If cleaning and defraging the disk doesn't work, you might consider getting more or upgrading your RAM. If you have any more questions, email me at christopher.cobble@yahoo.com.
