A long time ago I did some piano playing, since then I have dived into choral work. However, I basically forgot how to play the piano. I know where Middle C is but if the song is in the key of F where do I start on the keyboard to punch through the song? I get the basics, but I don't really know where to start.

Check out the "Circle of Fifths" - it will tell you that the key of F has one flat: Bb. So you start on F (count up from the C) and play white keys except for the B. You can download the chart a lot of places. Memorize it and you're all set to play in any key.

Well your key sig. determines what key you are playing in and which notes are flat, sharp, and natural. For instance, you mentioned the key of F. The scale would be
F,G, A, Bb,C,D, E,F
