The Broncos attempted to trade Wilson but he failed his physical, I forget what team they tried to trade him to. Because he failed the physical, the Broncos waived him. He has yet to get signed to a team so he is still a free agent. I would love to see my Cowboys sign him. Whatever team signs this guy would not only get a great player but a great emotional leader.

I was at the Seattle game when Al Wilson hurt his neck. There was a long stoppage and they had to carry him off on a cart. It was quite scary. The Broncos and the media have been very quiet about any details of his neck injury. When he was waived, it was supposedly for salary cap reasons. But after the draft, Shannahan said something along these lines: "I can't say much, I just hope that Al's OK." Reading between the lines, it makes me wonder if the Broncos know that Al's very seriously hurt but Wilson's the only one who still thinks he can play. It won't surprise me if we hear very soon about his retirment, but retirement does wierd things to the salary cap, too, so it might be like Terrell Davis where he doesn't play for a few years and then announces, "Hey, remember me? Well, I'm officially retiring now."

Al Wilson is my all time favorite Bronco and my second favorite NFL player of all time next to Lawrence Taylor. Can you tell by my name? Both wore the number 56. Sad to see him go, but the Broncos cut him because they felt like they were paying him too much because he didn't play as well as Al Wilson normally would last season. The reason why is because Al was hurt for most of last season. Because if anybody watched Al in his younger days, HE GOT AFTER PEOPLE! But he still had that nagging thumb injury from the previous season, and 2006 wasn't the first year he's had neck injuries. If you remember back in 2004, he had to sit out a couple of games because he experienced what NFL personnel call stingers, which is a jolt to the network of nerves reaching down from your neck and into your spine and into the rest of your body due to a quick, blunt force to your face or your head. But Al was basically cut because of injuries and salary cap issues. The Broncos tried to trade him to the New York Giants but he failed a physical with the Giants and that killed the trade.
On April 13, Al Wilson was officially cut from the Denver Broncos. The only team he's ever played for. He has been visiting a neck specialist in Los Angeles that many NFL players with neck issues visit, but his doctor hasn't cleared him to play yet. The way things are looking, Al might have to sit this year out and let his neck fully heal before he can suit up for any team. I hope Al can continue his NFL career, but the way things are playing out, it looks like his neck injury is worse than he or most people, like me, thought it was. But if his injury proves too much to overcome, then there are rumors that he is looking to retire and start his coaching career. I sincerely hope that the Broncos will try to sign this man as a coach. He would be a doggone good linebackers coach.
Even if my boy Al Wilson never suits up again, after the way things have played out and after watching my favorite player in the NFL laying on that field and have to be carted off, I am just glad that he can walk, have 100% use of all of his limbs and perform daily functions. We miss you Al.
GO BRONCOS!!!

The Broncos were working on a trade with the Giants until Big Al failed his physical. He was later released by Denver.
He has yet to sign with another team due to his neck injury. I hope to see him continue his career but it looks like that may not happen.
This is eerily similar to what happened to the last great Denver Middle Linebacker.
We still miss you John Mobley!

He didn't go any where yet.
His future is contingent on his health. If he's capable of still playing then someone should pick him up by the time training camp starts.
Otherwise Al could have an unceramonious retirement.

Considering his neck injury and the failure of any doctors giving him the clearance to play I doubt if any team will sign him.
