Second time I ask this, I have yet to find a Liberal with a response that actually answered the question.
What does the Left think will happen to Iraq if we withdraw say...Friday?

Just to point out, every nation that borders Kurdistan is hostile towards the Kurds.

Saying "who cares about the Iraqis" is not a very Liberal or tolerant thing to say. It's very Real Politik and fascist

This goes out to Emily. When we left Vietnam, the North Vietnamese Army commited countless atrocities in South Vietnam. Then it went on to invade Cambodia and Laos. "Settle their differences" for you is the deaths of 10's of thousands of people?

i fully believe that no one can or should answer this question unless they read the accounts of events in iraq everyday, not only from our prespective but, also, from the iraqi's. i think we need to turn to those within iraq for the answer, both the iraqi's and our military.
i don't know how anyone watching the nightly news can think that they are even slightly enlightened. we all need to do independent and diligent research into the matter before allowing our emotions to color our opinions.
when reading these answers, it is very obvious that most of the responders don't have a clue as to what is really going on over there.
i say why say anything until you do?

They think that it's none of their business... and if Iraq became a REAL danger we could wage a REAL war... You remember... Doing whatever it takes to defeat a REAL enemy by killing as many as possible... Gaining the respect of the world by doing what must be done when it can't be avoided... not by being murderous oil thieves... I honestly believe our soldiers are causing more death, destabilization and violence there than they're preventing. Many have come forward and said the war is not what it seems. As far as it being irresponsible to leave... It was irresponsible to invade Iraq and kill so many to begin with. They wouldn't miss us no matter what happened... believe me... We are not fighting a small number of "insurgents". We are destroying Iraq. Look at the death toll for the simple truth!!!
If countries in this region were allowed to "mature"... how would the big oil "middlemen" make their money in a global economy where these countries could easily refine and sell their own product anywhere in the world they chose? It's plain to see the oil companies were up agaist the wall in changing times. Who started this war? America and Britain (BIG OIL)... What a coincidence... These oil producing nations will ALWAYS be torn down if possible as they start to mature. I think it's pretty obvious there were plans for attacking other Middle-Eastern nations and the awakening of many to the corruption in "our" government has slowed things down.
Make any sense?
Anyone who is a REAL conservative of course feels the exact same way, hence Bush's 28% approval rating. I really don't know what that 28% is thinking because the corruption, trashing of The Constitution, laws, immigration laws, etc... is just so out there in plain sight these days... This administration does not have real conservative values. It's a puppet of the corporations and wealthy European global "elite". The American people have been completely sold out and are no longer being represented.
Sad to see that the Brits were able to get rid of Blair and "the land of the free" can't even fully wake up to what's going on.

i think we are in a classic conundrum right now. if we leave things will get much worse over there i suspect, but then i am not sure. it is really is hard to gauge how much of what is going on over there will diminish or crescendo if america leaves. none of us know for sure. all the experts disagree as it were. i do not believe in the notion that they "follow us here." that does not make any sense. but i also believe that warfare of this type represents a nearly impossible to win scenario. guerilla warfare is difficult made more difficult by trying ti install a government of a type that these people may not be ready for.
if we continue to fight, what will happen. i have not heard a good conservative argument supported by anything other than rhetoric for this question either. it could be we are at a standstill, a rhetoric driven draw is occuring when we should be discussing what is really and fundamentally possible over there militarily and socially. i am not satisfied that either side of the aisle has engaged each other or the american people with much candor and honesty in regards to this war.

I think things may not be as bad as the doom-mongers are predicting. There will be a period of unrest sure, but I think it will resolve itself fairly quickly.
Has it ever occurred to people that maybe it is the presence of occupying troops in Iraq is fuelling sectarian violence?
Consider this - the Imam Hussein shrine, one of Shiite Islam's holiest shrines, is in Karbala, a Sunni city. Yet for hundreds of years there was not a single act of violence between the two sects. The invasion happens, all of a sudden Sunni militias bomb the shrine.
The militias on both sides are supported by the people because they are resisting what the majority of Iraqis see as a foreign occupation. Pull the occupying troops out and the militias will lose most if not all of their support, both from within the country and from outside states and groups. It's hard to carry on a large scale conflict when you have no money and arms coming in.
The walls being put around certain areas of Baghdad will only strengthen the sectarian divides (don't believe me - look at N. Ireland).
It's time the US and the UK (sorry - the "coalition of the willing") realised that they are part of the problem, not part of the solution. The Iraqis (other than the US puppets in the Government) don't want us there.

There will be a civil war. Many people will die. One side will win, likely the Shiite side, but not necessarily. A new government will eventually take hold, likely a religious theocracy or dictatorship, and we will have to deal with it. You probably, to some extent, agree with this. Here is where we probably differ: I believe the exact same thing will happen if we stay, it will just take longer to occur, and many American soldiers will die while we wait. Doesn't seem worth it when the results will ultimately be the same.
The thing is, however, that there really is no way to predict what will happen. That is one of the problems with the war in the first place. The current administration thought they knew what would happen, and they were wrong. This holds true regardless of whether or not we stay, though, so why bother?

Within a year after our departure, whenever it happens, there will be a civil war. Iraq may eventually fracture into three new nations (Shia, Sunni and Kurd). If there does emerge a Sunni nation, it will be led by fundamentalists.
This will happen regardless of when our withdrawal happens, though. It will be a result of our actions in Iraq up to this point, not a result of our leaving. Our leaving will simply allow for the now inevitable to occur.

The same thing that will happen when we do leave Iraq even with a victory.
See here is the problem it's was said we are fighting them over there so we don't fight them over here. So what happens when the war is over?? Because we won't be fighting them there. Now do they come over here and fight us here?? Just because we fix what was broken and Iraq doesn't mean squat to Al Queda. They are all over not just in that one country.
This war is costing us billions even trillions of dollars with no end in site. How high are the taxes going to go to pay for this war. President Bush didn't even factor the war into his balanced budget.

We were told the horror stories of what would happen if the troops left Vietnam. They saw a comunism under every rock.
They quickly settled their own difficulties and got on with their life.
that war in Iraq doesn't matter to terriorists. They were not even from Iraq. Wether the troops leave or not terriorists will continue to do their thing. they have not stopped them and will not stop them wether they leave Iraq or not.

They think what the right is saying is true. That 1 million will die and 500k or so will be displaced. They do not want that to be on their hands, so they will never pass a bill that calls for immediate withdrawal as they promised when they got elected.
