now this is the type of question that's good for yahoo answers. I wanted to know just as badly as you so I looked on wikipedia and apparently a guy named Jimmy Bartholomew created those "chocolate grain" type toppings in a candy factory in the 1930s. Therefore, jimmies came from his own name.

jimmies are probably better known in the northeastern united states because that candy shop originiated in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania

I heard this for the first time the other day on Regis and Kelly. Kelly said that in New Jersey on the shore they call softserve icecream custard and sprinkles are called jimmies. I guess it's whatever part of the country you live in.

The chocolate ones are Jimmies and the colored ones are sprinkles here in the Phila area. I guess it's like hoagie, hero or sub sandwich

do they????!!! thats a new one on me! Maybe an American saying?? here in the UK "jimmies" could be Pyjama's, or a "jimmy" is cockney slang for a pee ('jimmy riddle'....piddle)

i watched a program where they make them and that is what they called them maybe because the are small?
