Depends on what you are after. Personally, I would look for a rural setting within and hour or so of a major city. You can have the big lights of the city and the quiet rural life with a little less crime.
If you want weather closer to what you are used to, then I would opt for the northern and eastern States. If you prefer hot and dry, the southwest states, Hot and humid with possibility of Hurricanes, the south east coast.
I prefer where I live of course, which is close to Chicago, Illinois, but I am living somewhat rurally. I wish you luck and hope you do well.

nice places . . . I am formally from hawaii and i lived in San Diego when I went to college. I would say that those places are nice places to live.
If you want a job and housing has not hit the roof and like warm weather . . . Las Vegas . . . The housing prices are dropping. Outside the cement town , , ,
I lived on the Northern East Coast when I was in the army. I liked Vermont and Maine. Very Green.
I live in Germany today.

gnerally speaking not much difference to uk cities. like here
down towns are difficult palce to live. however as USA is a big country houses have bigger rooms, attached bathrooms and toilets in camparioson and you must be able to drive cars as distains to shops and other local facilities is greater.
climste from city and state to state does differ a lot, what kind of climate you perfer.

Houston is a great place to live. The job market is excellent, housing is very reasonable, and there is a lot to do. There is no snow, but very hot and humid summers.
Check out the website findyourspot.com for more help or ideas though.

Just like the UK they all have their plus and Minus sides. Good luck getting through the Immigration process as it's a nightmare and can take ages ( years ).
