A whacko rightwing bomb thrower gets non-stop coverage, but one of the greatest novelists and a truly compassionate and brilliant man like Kurt Vonnegut barely gets mentioned.

The American media's priorities are all screwed up.

well said. Vonnegut was one of my favorite writers...man he was OUT there! Nobody else writes like he did.

Why? Because you admire him? Kurt Vonnegut is unknown to most people and thus not as newsworthy mainly because people don't give a hoot about his passing. I am definitely not a Falwell follower since I am agnostic but I find Falwell of more general importance than some author who just wrote a few good books. Jerry Falwell for better or for worse has a big influence on the American culture. And what about the attention payed to Ana Nicole Smith, now that was a joke.

Kurt Vonnegut will live forever....

The media will sensationalize anything that will distract people long enough from the power/money struggle that is going on around the globe. In some ways, it is better that they did not sensationalize Kurt Vonnegut, he was a man of incredible imagination and deserves much better than the US media dragging his name around in their mud.

If he touched you...he is still alive in you...the same can be said for Falwell. To each their own, as long as no one is being harmed or taken advantage of!!

A long time ago, in a Chicago far, far away, my Senior Year English teacher assigned us to read "Cat's Cradle" by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. I loved this book, and read the whole thing overnight! The next day I was bursting to tell everyone what happens next, but my teacher made me keep the secrets until the class caught up! Soon I got "God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater" and the others, including the great "Slaughterhouse Five." I think that Mr. Vonnegut helped shape my young mind; I know he helped give me my distrust of our, and all governments! I felt like I lost a good friend when KV, Jr died. So it goes. edit: That was a catch phrase he used once, "So it goes."

I agree, but people like Vonnegut were not for the masses, and the masses make the ratings. I wouldn't say you're filled with hatred as someone above put it, I do understand that an unfair dealing can make people angry. There's no hate in that, just a normal reaction to injustice.
