Of course, there are people out there who are still married but want to have someone on the side. This would be a good reason (to them) to lie about being divorced. I think this is the main reason why people tell this lie....to be with someone else.

People can lie about a lot of stuff so there probably are people out there that would lie and say they were divorced and weren't. The only reason I can think of is maybe they are gay and want to act like they aren't by saying they are divorced or maybe they think in a sick sort of way that they will get attention from saying they are divorced when they aren't.
I bet most of the people that cheated on their spouse in their marriage would lie about why they got a divorce though so they don't come across as looking like the jerks that they are.

I'm sure plenty have lied about being divorced. I can think of several reasons. They worry about any stigma associated with being divorced, but that's not so much the case anymore. I think probably the biggest reason someone would lie about being divorced would be if there was someone they wanted to get involved with, and the divorce wasn't final yet, they'd say it was so that the person would get in a relationship with them. I think someone could also lie about being divorced in an attempt to defraud someone. Without many specifics though, I can't guess why the person in your life would be lying about being divorced.

Yeah , they'll lie to you because they want to get you in bed. You just about have to these days check around and find people that know them and that will tell you the truth. What makes it bad is that if you fall in love with them and then find out, you have a broken heart. I can't understand someone lying to a person and know they aren't even thinking divorce just want a little on the side. That is cruelest thing anyone can do to another person, they don't give a damn about you , just another piece of a** , then they go home with their wife never really knowing that their spouse has been messing around.

You know the answer already! It's unfortunate that you're asking hoping to hear some logical reason that will make you think twice about staying in the relationship. I'm speaking from experience, the reality is that if you've fallen for this person anything they say will sound like the truth but it's just another LIE. That's what sucks! Married people that cheat are clever at lying....cheaters are liars that say anything to keep the deceit going until you WISE UP!

Yes, it happens all the time. Most people would never consider getting involved with someone who is married. So if a married person wants to have an affair, they will frequently say that they are getting a divorce, because a lot more people will get involved with someone who is getting a divorce.

You mean lie about being previously married and subsequently divorced? If so, divorce has stigma, I can see why people wouldn't announce it.
Or being divorced, as in still married and misrepresenting their current marital status? Then they're just trying to get some on the side!

Yes, because they want sex.. If you meet a hot girl and tell her you are married, you won't be getting it tonight. But if you lie to her and tell her you are divorced or getting a divorce, you can have her.. What would you do?.

Why do people lie?
Because they either think or feel that it would be to their advantage to do so.
"I'm getting a divorce."
Lie- reason to get appear available.
"I'm not getting a divorce."
Lie- reason is ashamed of it.

Not if they are a honest person.
They lie to deceive, commit fraud, portray that they are someone they are not, because they think it something you want to hear, to fill like they are part of the group, and etc.
