I did that in 1969 for $20,000 and a $20,000 bonus upon return home... all tax-free.... Might be worth a million today. Didn't have a family at the time, and was happy to leave the relatives behind for a while. That nest egg and the work experience made me financially secure for the rest of my life . I'd do it again in a flash..

Leave family for 1 year? or leave family permanently after the 1 year....?

If its the first one I would. But I would not leave permenently. Whats the point of having all this money if you cant enjoy it around the people you love.
