This is a question I've been asking since I became an adult. My Parents moved to Orlando when I was less than two years old for my health. They moved here because my Mother was raised here and her Mother was here.

We moved here in 1942 and I finally left in 2003. My wife & I sold our house, poor sucker who bought it, bought a motorhome and have been traveling ever since. We return to Orlando bi-weekly to visit my mother who still lives here.

Growing up in Orlando was fun. Our streets were brick and dirt. Our schools were not the best but many of these schools still stand. I went to Marks Street Elementary and it's now a senior center.

Orlando was run by a tough Sheriff, even though we had police, he still ran the town. Our jails were small, you didn't need a large jail with Sheriff Dave Starr around.

Then came Disney and it's been down hill ever since. Orlando has become a large town with small town leaders. Until Orlando gets some professional leaders it will remain as it is now. Crime is sky high because of the "Good Ole Boy" attitude of it's leaders. "You scratch my back & I'll scratch your back.

Orlandos traffic problem will never be solved. There are too many cars for it's roads and the only new roads being bulit are toll roads. I dread the day I-4 came to Orlando and cut Lake Ivanhoe in half. I-4 should have never passed through Orlando, then the city leaders would have had to do something about the roads. Anything they do is too little, too late.

If you don't like the actual area where you live, then you can move. Where exactly are you? I lived in Florida for over 7 years, and in Orlando for 3. I was in Kissimmee, and the area is not too bad at all. I lived in a very nice gated community, where there was no crime, and they had a crime watch committee, so the residents were always on the lookout for any suspicious activity.
And to answer the other guy's question, Celebration is a very nice area.http://www.city-data.com/city/Celebration-Florida.html. It is very well kept, the houses are beautiful, more Victorian style, very nice. Theres a small downtown area where theres a movie theater, a few restuarants and shopping. It's a fairly quiet and peaceful town, I would have loved to live there, but the real estate is a bit more pricey than the surrounding areas. I think it's definitly worth it though! Another place to look in on - Doctor Phillips - niiiice area!

one ingredient to recollect approximately Florida is that there's no state earnings tax. So, whether the pay scale is a splash smaller - you will make up for it with the aid of not paying taxes to the state on your earnings. there are various super places in the Orlando section, however the previous posters are precise. that is best to discover a place you adore it is likewise not likely to be including a extensive holiday to your day. site visitors might nicely be terrible and tolls can get high priced! The southeast ingredient to Orlando has lots of technologies jobs in learn Park and Lockheed Martin and there is likewise the UCF campus. there is likewise lots of paying for and eating, alongside with super neighborhoods and A rated colleges. that is decrease than an hour from the subject parks, approximately 30 - 40 minutes from the airport and an hour or with the purpose to the sea coast. you're able to have small city residing in the midst of all of the Orlando exhilaration.

Why dont you quit smoking and get your lazy ghetto living with your boyfriend butt back in school and then get ... The heck of my city!

If you think Pine Hills is a ghetto or Paramore.... try living on the southeast east side of Detroit. Or better yet try the ghetto areas of the Bronx around o Yankee Stadium.

You are right about one thing.... Drivers Suck here but its more because of the tourists than anything else.

We moved because Electronic Arts (EA) bought the compan my husband was working for and relocated us to here. It's certainly not my first choice, but it's not nearly as bad as you make it out to be. Yes, there's violence, but it's not the worst place around, especially if you avoid activities and areas where you might get into trouble, which isn't always possible for everyone but it often is. Parramore or MetroWest may be bad, but we lived over in Maitland. Winter Park is quite nice, as is Avalon. There are plenty of good parts. We've since moved to Apopka and it's quite nice, though there are of course, stil problems in areas, even in South Apopka. The so-called traffic around here is a joke compared to other places I've lived...it's not nearly as bad as when I lived in Washington DC or New York City. And the proportion of bad drivers here is about the same as elsewhere.

If anything complain about the weather. We have four seasons...hot and humid, less hot and humid, hurricane and forest fire. Complain about the lack of culture around here. Complain about the overwhelming abudnace of religion in inappropriate environments. Complain about the poor educational system in Orange County or corruption in the Expressway authority or the environmental mismanagement. So many bigger issues than the ones you mention.

Actually the Bronx is much better. With the sky high real estate prices in Manhattan, many parts of the Bronx are being revitalized and upscale. I wouldn't be surprised to see most of the Bronx getting really expensive to live in very soon.

That being said, Orlando sucks. I've been there and have no desire to return. It's just one big flat reclaimed swamp area devoid of culture and class. I can think of so many places I would rather take my kids to visit than Orlando. Outside of taking your kids to visit Disneyland, there is no reason to visit.

GREAT! I will find out later this week if we will be moving to the Orlando area. I come from small town America, will I make it? We plan to rent a house in Celebration, is that decent? Do they have much crime?

Orlando is not even the meanest city in Florida. Try living in Miami. If you don't speak Spanish, you might as well slit your own throat before driving through town.
