I don't think you are shamed that you survived. I think you are ashamed about getting into that situation. Maybe you feel "stupid" (I am not saying you are stupid) for not being able to swim or control the situation. This is what would go through my mind : "I am a good swimmer. How could I be so careless and stupid to get myself into this situation. I should be able to control this, but I am scared and I panicked.

Don't be ashamed. Everyone makes mistakes, some that even cost the lives of OTHER people. That's 100 times worse. I've come close to drowning many times while freediving and I'm proud I managed to survive the ordeal. Learn from your mistake and move on.

Nearly drowning to death is not something to be ashamed about. You need to celebrate the fact that you lived through this experience and learn from it. I wasn't there when it happened but I can imagine that you started panicking and nearly drowned that is not something to be ashamed of, learn from it, remember it, maybe you can pass on a lesson to others from this experience. Maybe you can analyze what exactly happened and something good can come from this

America, no. The Republican Party, yes. Waterboarding is torture, and defined as such by the entire world. It is a violation of the Geneva Convention. It is also a violation of the US Constitution, whether Bush and his followers want to admit it or not. This atrocity will be stopped in a few more months. Andnone too soon. The extremists who advocate waterboarding and other forms of torture claim they are patriots. They are not. Why? It's well known that more humane methods are also mor effective at getting information. A REAL patriot would demand that those methods be used, not torture. Whatever the motives of the Bush administration and their followers, their advocacy of waterboarding and torture PROVES that they arre not patriots.

I don't think that's anything to be ashamed of.

I think that you should embrrace the fact that you are still alive, no one will see you as weak if you talk about your almost experience with death.

I don't think that you should feel ashamed, as you did nothing wrong or shameful, but obviously the way that you were raised induced the feeling of shame. Be thankful that you are still alive.

The one thing for sure now is that you gained strength by posting this question. I am really sorry you went through that and now here you are still alive. No one is weak because of a misfortune.

Instead of shame you should be feeling thankful. You are obviously here for a reason and you are a survivor, not a victim.
