I just finished doing a lot of research, including Consumer Reports.
The highest rated "regular" printer was the Canon Pixma IP4300; avg cost about $100. It scored 85. I checked but couldn't find an economical price for inkjet replacement cartridges.

What I opted for is the Epson Styus Photo R380. A very versatile printer. It scored 82 by Consumer Reports. Found it for $98. It uses 6 ink cartridges. Replacement cartridges at Staples are $16 each. Found them for $12 each, and currently on sale for $4.95 each. Here's the site: http://www.imarketcity.com

Hope this helps a little.

i would go for an epson as the cartridges are cheaper if you want to buy a non brand name cartridge to use after the new epson ones whih come with the printer run out. you may pay more for the printer in the first place but in the long term you would reap the benfits when you need new cartridges

Without a doubt, Epson printers are some of the least expensive to buy and operate. For the cheapest ink supplies of good quality, go to INKQUICK.COM.

printers and ink or toner aren't really cheap. you can get a cheap printer, but the ink will be expensive. your cheapest way out is going to be a used inkjet that you can refill ink yourself. I got an HP 812c at goodwill for 10 and bought the refil kit at like walgreens or walmart for about 20. you can refill a cartridge 4 or 5 times. if you have to buy one it will cost about 20 - 25

Epson r360 and continous inkfeed system
the R360 can be used as standalone as well as hooked up as a normal printer. the continous infeed is well, the cheepest way to run inks as the normal ink cartridges only hold 5ml of ink and charge you enough for them. where as a contiuouns ink feed holds 100ml ink and 500 ml of ink cost £5 per colour

look for the nearest computer fair and they will only sell epsons as well hte normally have them printing demo's onto paper so you can see the quality

Canon printers are quite cheap to buy, they also consume very little ink and you can get cheap cartridges for them. You can get cartridges new but they are cheapest if you get them second-hand from Cartridge World. (second-hand cartridges are also more eco-friendly)
