It really depends on the musical genre, and you will find all kinds of "The top most influential musicians" lists on the internet, but overall, there are two music acts that should get the credit:
The Beatles could have been the most influential band of all times. According to Wikipedia they are also the most critically acclaimed, so it's no wonder! Besides, who doesn't know who the beatles are?
Elvis Presley on the other hand, could be the most influential single artist. His legacy endures even to this day.

Buddy Guy has been possibly the single greatest influence on rock music. He was an inspiration to Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton, and anyone who knows rock music knows what huge influences they have been. All male country music singers. I love country music, but I have noticed that all the men sound the same..lol. Also, I think boy bands like N'sync and Back street boys imitated eachother...Also, christina aguilera and brittany spears came out around the same time..
