well - in one day you could actually see a lot..
if the weather's nice jump on one of the open-air tour busses, the "Big Bus", you can jump on or off as many times as you want and they'll take you by all the tourist highlights, including: Stanley Park, Gastown, Chinatown, Granville Island, various beaches and the Downtown shopping district

As I live close to Vancouver I can tell you that most people like to visit Gastown, Granville Island ( you have to visit the Public Market there ), Stanley Park, Chinatown... but it all depends on what interests you :)

If you only have a day to spend, I suggest that you visit Robson Street, Granville Island and spend the rest of the day at Stanley Park

Hi,
If I only had one day I would skip Vancouver B.C. and try and make the trip to Victoria on Vancouver Island B.C. and visit the Boschert Gardens and the town of Victoria.

They have an amazing aquarium that is in Stanley Park - also lovely - even after the big blow down last fall. But in one day you reall CAN see a lot of the city. Even take in a tram ride up Grouse Mt and see the Grizzly bear refuge.

Granville Street, Gastown and Granville island. I did a little walking tour with my friends there once and we did all three spots in a (long) day, it was really fun.

I ditto P-Wabbit ... the "bigbus" is the way to go, esp. if you only have one day to take it all in.
And be sure to take a look at the Public Library (i think it stops by there too).
