If I wrote in my blog anonymously on an obscure site that someone in my family smoked pot one time and a crazy and vengeful family member saw it and recognized it as me, could they call the cops and search my parent's house? I don't want my family to be bothered by this nut.

No, the police need probable cuase to obtain a warrant. The fact someone a long time ago once smoked pot in your house is insufficient to get probable cause. Especially if it is from an anonymous source that was "identified" by a third person.

Anything, of course, is possible. After all, the Bosox won the World Series. However, it is 99.99999% unlikely that the cops would pursue this lead from a "crazy and vengeful family member."

Furthermore, it is not probable cause for the cops to search a home just because someone sometime in the past smoked some dope on one occasion. Thus, because a judge would not issue a search warrant, the cops wouldn't pursue it.

First, just because someone wrote something does not mean that what you say is fact.

Before a home can be searched it will have to have a court order signed by a judge to be searched. Proof, would have to be the reason for search.

Someone in my family smokes pot, lets see if my home will be searched. I doubt it, because first they would have to prove it. Calm down why would they have your parents home searched by the cops? The cops have better things to do anyway.

If what you have stated in the site is true ,You have not committed any offense. The cops can zero on the source from which the material emerged. But nothing to worry !!!

Perhaps you should consider not exposing your family's "dirty laundry" to the public in the first place. Indiscretion is not conducive to peace.

no. pretty sure they can't. if they do, make sure they have a warrant... don't let them in... and i guarantee they won't be back.. they won't get a warrant based on what someone says without evidence.
