MLB is also starting the LDS's a day later, which I suppose allows for double tie-breakers. But they're also allowing two days between the end of the LDS and the beginning of the LCS, and and a minimum of 3 days between the end of the LCS's and the beginning of the WS. Just in case of rain'outs. Yes, that' their explanation.
Of course, they had no problems with having 18 weather-related cancellation in the first 2 1/2 weeks of the season.

They can't just play on weekends because it would take forever to complete the series. It could then take three weekends plus one day of the fourth in a seven game series. So, weekday are also included. The ratings will probably be the same no matter what day the games are played.

Chow guy - it is starting on a Wednesday, not playing only on weekends.
Anyway - my guess is Roger Clemens was busy on that Saturday, so he asked them to move it. Because we all know that what the Yankees want, the Yankees get.
